About us

Altitude was formed in 2006 as a joint venture between two established software companies, Sysology Ltd and Ornibus Ltd, who were contracted to build the Silverjet website. Whilst the company was initially just a point of contract with Silverjet, it soon began to have a life of its own such that both Sysology and Ornibus pooled their clients and merged all their business into Altitude during the summer of 2007. Since then, Altitude has not looked back and has grown steadily, despite the testing econonmic times during 2008-2010.

The company is based in Richmond, London, with an in-house team of highly skilled IT technologists who work well together with both passion and flair.

We pride ourselves on developing long-term relationships with our clients and have delivered multiple projects for most of our clients. We work with a strong commitment to quality and communication and deliver systems that are seen by our clients as value for money.

The management team

As you can see below, our management team has a great deal of experience delivering systems. Not only that, but we love doing what we do!

    Robin Smallwood

    Managing Director

Robin has been working in IT for nearly 25 years. After studying Computer Science and Business Studies at the University of Buckingham he joined WS Atkins in 1990 as an IT consultant where, amongst other things, he ran a help desk for the Department of Health and developed numerous systems for the public sector.

After 4 years, Robin left WS Atkins and became self-employed, not only working as a contractor for WS Atkins, but also developing his own client base (one of whom Altitude still works with to this day).

Whilst self-employed, Robin started working with Rapid Travel Solutions and soon afterwards joined the company as an employee. Whilst at Rapid he became Head of Analysis and worked with several blue-chip companies, including Going Places, Lastminute.com, STA Travel, Telewest and Avis. This work involved designing and managing the implementation of enterprise-wide travel agent systems. Rapid grew quickly and was sold to Telewest in 2002.

Robin is a keen musician and, despite having a young family of 3 boys, still finds time to indulge his passion in playing the pipe organ at services and concerts.

David heads the development team at Altitude. He is a postgraduate holding multiple degrees in IT, computer science and embedded systems and has worked as a software developer since 1999. He has successfully delivered complex and challenging software solutions for many clients across multiple industries including finance, healthcare, communications and travel.

David is passionate about anything and everything to do with technology. His wife often complains about all the electronic gadgets and blinking lights in their house.

    Antony Makepeace

    Client Support Director

Antony has been in hardware and software development and support since the early 1980s. Following his studies in Mathematics, Statistics and Computing, Antony has gained experience in many areas of business whilst working for companies such as ICL, Wessex Water, Baxter Healthcare, Zurich Municipal and Standard Life.

Before joining Altitude, Antony worked with Robin at Rapid Travel Solutions where he became Development Manager, managing a team of 6 developers. In 2004 he joined Robin at Sysology and then went on to become one of the founding directors of Altitude in 2006.

Outside of work, when the weather is right, Antony spends many an hour flying his microlight. When it is cold and wet (and most sensible people are inside keeping warm) he prefers to put on his rugby boots for the Guilfordians RFC (where he was a chairman for 6 years) and coaches the joint Colts with Cranleigh RFC.
