Redesigned JBJS WebsiteThe Bone and Joint Journal

Prior to becoming the Bone and Joint Journal in 2012, the journal was called the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.

Our brief was to reconstruct a new version of The Journal's main website. The previous website was hosted by the organisation that provided the online version of the journals to current subscribers.

The requirement was to separate the management, searching and display of article/abstract/editorial content with the rest of site content. This presented numerous technical challenges, including the implementation of single sign-on functionality requiring synchronisation of subscription and user security details across 3 separate systems.

In addition, the new website needed to integrate with the proprietry in-house subscriptions system and it needed to be possible for staff to manage the content themselves.

The site was developed around the Umbraco Content Management System with heavy use of Javascript to facilitate the single sign-on functionality. A supporting backoffice application was developed in Microsoft Access.
